What type of lenses is best for my eyeglasses?

When it comes to buying eyeglasses, selecting the right lenses is essential to ensure you can see clearly and comfortably. The type of lenses you will need depends on a number of factors including your prescription, lifestyle and budget. Here is a breakdown of some common types of glasses lenses available:

Single Vision Lenses – Single vision lenses are the most common and are best suited for people who require correction in one focal plane (either nearsightedness or farsightedness). The lens has the same focal power across its entire surface, so objects in all distances will appear sharp.

Multifocal Lenses – Multifocal lenses, often referred to as "progressives" offer two or more focal planes within each lens. This allows for different levels of Rx power (prescription) for either distance and near vision, intermediate distances or all distances. This makes them a great option if you need correction for both near and far vision.

Photochromic Lenses – Photochromic lenses are clear indoors but turn into sunglasses when exposed to ultraviolet light from the sun. They offer protection from the sunrays while still allowing you to enjoy natural light with comfortable vision.

Polarized Lenses – Polarized lenses are another great option which eliminates glare from surfaces like water or pavement and allows wearers to see with greater clarity and colour accuracy in both bright areas as well as shady ones.

High Index Lenses – High index lenses are thinner than standard plastic material so they allow users who have higher prescriptions (with more strength) to look good without additional lens thickness or weight that can be unwelcome with stronger corrections.
